Mini Stick EVO – Build Log

The Mini Stick Evo is a lightweight 650mm wingspan park flyer built entirely from balsa.

Designed as a classic stick model, it is compact, easy to transport, and lively in the air.

It is recommended to cover it with lightweight Oracover film or 30 g/m² laminate film for best results. Use carefully selected light balsa wood and assemble with cyanoacrylate and white glue.

Despite its small size, it flies smoothly and is perfect for beginners as well as enthusiasts who enjoy traditional balsa RC planes.

The center of gravity is located at the main spar and can be adjusted after the first flights.

Control surface settings are:
Ailerons: 7 mm each side
Elevator: 5 mm each side
Rudder: 18 mm each side

It is recommended to start with 50% expo.

You don’t need a printed construction drawing, it’s enough to study the plan beforehand and follow the assembly steps. Everything is very simple and quick.

WING

A very important step: first, join the main spar, then glue it onto the 1.5mm balsa sheet on the underside. Once the spar is in place, you can glue each rib individually (img2).

EMPENNAGE

Glue the balsa tips, then sand and shape the tail surfaces. Finally, cut the movable surfaces, sand them, and insert the hinges.

FUSELAGE

The control elements are bowden tubes and 0.8 mm steel wire.  Secure the bowden tubes in the fuselage , before covering.

The aileron servo is mounted on the central plywood rib under the wing. On the sides of the fuselage, two 0.8 mm steel rods pass through notches in the sides to operate the ailerons.

  1. i just bought this plan but i do not see any information on material specs (type, thickness, etc) for cutting out balsa and plywood parts. maybe its there but i don’t ee it. any help would be appreciated. this will be my first balsa rc plane.

    Thank you.

  2. sorry for my last comment. i see there is another pdf file that seems to have this information on material specs i was looking for.

    1. Hi Jaime!

In the file showing the parts arranged on the balsa sheets, the material thickness is indicated above each sheet. There are also a few instructions in the detailed plan.

Perhaps I should have included more detail for a beginner, but I’m sure you’ll manage by also following the pictures. I’m here if you run into any problems.
